Board Briefing: April 2026

The Board of Directors convened this month to celebrate campus milestones, refine the upcoming academic calendar, and finalize strategic shifts in student support services and district infrastructure.

The meeting opened with a spotlight on the talents and service within our Raven community:
  • Student Achievement: We celebrated our recent Middle School VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) medal winners for their creative excellence.
  • Campus Milestones: Recognition was given to the successful dedication of the Raven Court and the excitement surrounding our upcoming Graduation ceremonies.
  • Heart of Service: The Board honored two outstanding MacArthur parent volunteers for their tireless dedication to our students and staff.

Committee Updates & District Progress
District leadership and committees provided progress reports on the initiatives shaping the 1901 experience:
  • Finance: The committee reported that the district remains in a stable financial position. Current efforts are focused on long-term forecasting, benchmarking brokerage fees, and the opening of the Board Scholarship applications.
  • Facilities: Planning was finalized for the recent dedication ceremony and the posting of the Velocity plaque. Work also continues on the upcoming History Wall installation.
  • Strategic Improvement: The committee reviewed the 3rd Quarter Step-Back report, which provides a detailed look at the progress of our various strategic district initiatives.

Student Support & After-School Programming
A significant focus of the meeting involved a transition in how we provide after-school care to better serve our families and staff:
  • Mentoring Alliance Partnership: Starting next school year, the Elementary campuses will transition from an in-house program to a partnership with Mentoring Alliance. This program offers a structured curriculum, homework help, SEL support, and extended care until 6:00 PM.
  • Secondary Campus Options: Secondary students will have access to the City of Waco's program at the Doris Miller Community Center or other local providers like Mission Waco.
  • Staff Support: The Board is actively exploring ways to supplement or cover costs for staff members who utilize these new after-school partnerships.
Governance & Operational Actions
The Board took several actions to ensure state compliance and operational efficiency:
  • Consent Agenda: The Board approved the March minutes, February financials, and current enrollment/waitlist reports.
  • Calendar Adjustments: A correction to the 2026–2027 Calendar was approved: April 16 is now a Staff Day, and March 26 is designated as a holiday.
  • Infrastructure & Safety: Updates were approved for the district telephone system and E-rate infrastructure projects. Additionally, the Board approved the installation of ballistic film on the remaining campus surfaces to ensure full state safety compliance.
  • Instructional Materials: The Board certified the 2026–2027 Instructional Materials list and the Provision of Instructional Materials Survey.

Leadership & Evaluation
The session concluded with a focus on district leadership and accountability:
