January – Suicide Prevention & Mental Health🧠

This month, our focus is Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness. We want every student to feel safe, heard, and supported. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and building healthy emotional skills early helps students cope with stress, solve problems, and lead healthier lives.
As part of our district-wide commitment, students will receive age-appropriate Suicide Prevention & Mental Health lessons throughout January. These lessons help students:
🌟 Recognize and identify emotions
💬 Use safe, healthy language
🚫 Understand why joking about self-harm is unsafe
🧰 Learn coping strategies (like grounding and box breathing)
🙋 Know when and how to ask for help
🤝 Identify trusted adults in their support network
We believe that teaching these skills early makes a lasting, positive impact on student well-being and school safety.

How Families Can Support Mental Wellness at Home

Here are a few ways to support your child’s emotional health:
🗣️ Check in about feelings, not just events
🌈 Normalize asking for help
🤗 Stay calm and supportive during big emotions
👀 Notice changes in behavior, mood, or sleep
🛑 Follow up if your child uses concerning language—even jokingly
If you ever hear something that worries you, please reach out. We are here to support your student.
