November: National Gratitude Month

Gratitude
Gratitude is important not only because it's kind and thoughtful, but also because gratitude is consistently related to increased feelings of happiness. Gratitude can help people feel more positive emotions, improve health, handle hardship, and to create stronger relationships. By challenging your child to notice when things (even small things!) go well, they can start to foster more hopefulness which can lead to more hopeful actions.

Ways to Practice Gratitude at Home

Here are a few simple ways you can practice gratitude with your child:

Start a Gratitude Jar or Journal đź“–
  • Encourage your child to write down one thing they’re grateful for each day. This can be as simple as a favorite toy, a nice meal, or a fun experience. You could even use a “Gratitude Jar” where they drop notes daily or weekly.
Share Gratitude at Mealtime 🍽️
  • Before eating, ask everyone at the table to share one thing they’re grateful for. This simple practice can be a great way to bond as a family and helps everyone focus on the positive.
Gratitude Art Projects 🎨
  • Encourage your child to draw or paint something they feel grateful for. Art is a great way for children to express what’s meaningful to them!
Write Thank You Notes Together đź’Ś
  • Take some time to write thank you notes to friends, family members, or teachers. It’s a simple but meaningful way to show appreciation and teaches kids the importance of acknowledging others.
