Winter Weather Tips & Reminders

As the winter season is upon us, here are some helpful tips for the upcoming colder weather.

1. Stay Informed with ParentSquare:

Keep an eye on your ParentSquare account for any announcements regarding school closures or delays due to inclement weather. Our primary mode of communication will be through ParentSquare, so please make sure your contact information is up-to-date.

2. Prepare Your Home:

  • Check your heating system to ensure it's working efficiently. Or get a space heater to heat specific rooms.
  • Seal any drafts around windows and doors to keep the cold air out.
  • Stock up on essential supplies such as blankets, non-perishable food, and water.
  • Create a basic emergency kit with essentials like flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, and necessary medications.
  • Keep your phones charged and have a backup power source in case of power outages.

3. Dress Warmly:

  • Ensure your student has a warm jacket, gloves, and a hat.
  • Layering is key to staying warm, so make sure everyone has appropriate clothing for the chilly temperatures.
  • Remove any wet clothing as soon as possible. Wearing wet clothing in cold temperatures can lead to a variety of health risks.

4. Stay Safe on the Roads:

  • Check road conditions before traveling.
  • Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready with appropriate tires, antifreeze, and other necessary maintenance.

5. Contact Catrena Thomas for Assistance:

If you find yourself in need of jackets or any additional resources to help your family during the winter, our dedicated Parent Liaison, Catrena Thomas, is here to assist you. Please reach out to her at cthomas@rapswaco.org, and she will do her best to support your needs.

Remember, your safety and well-being are our top priorities. By taking these simple steps, you can ensure a warm and secure environment for your family this winter.
